Torso Rotation is the Answer - The Body is Designed to
Turn
By
Dr. John Bagonzi
There is energy in a rotating body - a top, a
wheel, the Earth, a Ferris wheel and a pitcher throwing a
baseball. A concomitant event of this turning is the spin
off or “sling shot” phenomenon effect and its energy.
The equatorial bulge of the earth is somewhat due to the
fact the earth is spinning or turning (the sun and the
moon's gravitation have an effect also). Snow flies
off the tires in the winter time because the wheels are
turning. Objects will tend to throw off their
extremities if they rotate. This is a tremendous form
of energy, that captured, can result in boosts for the
launch of a space vehicle and/or the rotation of another
planet, such as Jupiter, to get another spin off boost to
drive a vehicle further into space. While all of this
is a supremely technical dynamic, based on laws of physics,
the reality is that David's sling shot act, that apparently
felled Goliath, is a micro-edition of this energy.
Twirling the sling shot until it reached an optimum speed,
he released the rock towards the giant. The rock
undoubtedly picked up more speed than David could have
derived by simply throwing the rock, assuming he had no
training on pitching mechanics. To take from this
legendary event and transpose the simplicity of centrifugal
force generating energy to create a “sling shot “effect, I
submit that the body in throwing a baseball, as a formal
pitch, is a turning rotating body or should be, that is
generating force or energy in the form of its centrifugal
character. This is due to the turning, and if done
correctly there is a serious production of energy.
This specific energy joining up with forward
or directional momentum creates a synergism, that when timed
optimally, emits a composite energy. This supplements the
energy of motion already underway, and the pitcher 's arm
gains quite naturally a boost all the way to the finger
tips. Obviously, the art form is being able to retain the
closure of the torso for a lengthy period, and then release
it when the forces are primed to join.
Occasionally someone suggests a pitcher is
opening too early, and if it's an astute observation ( many
of these observations are not) then this should be
corrected. When the glove side flies to that side and is
pointing away from the target, it is likely that a premature
opening has taken place with a good bit of rotational energy
forfeited to the demons of flaw. The misuse of this energy
needs to be corrected immediately, if one is to expect any
kind of success with purposeful and efficient mechanics.
